Terming Dipayan-Jenie as the Abbas-Mastan of Tollywood, the Malaya of 'Madras Cafe' Arijit Dutta says the duo dished out a similar taut suspense thriller.

"Abbas-Mastan has spawned a new genre of entertainer/thriller in Hindi film industry. The way the card-themed murder mystery has been mounted will show them as future Abbas-Mastans here," the Maoist ideologue in 'Shunyo Awnko' said at the premier of Teen Patti here.

"As a product of Roopkala Kendra Jenie has brought new insight to a typical entertainer which has become more pronounced in the works of several new directors of Bengal. We need to promote them," said. Arijit, whose production house and theatre has been instrumental in the turn-around of content-rich Bengali films in past few years.

Arijit, who had wowed Indian audiences with his portrayal of a Tamil character in the Shoojit Sorcar flick, is a known face in Tollywood having featured in films of directors from Buddhadev Dasgupta to Ghosh and even actor-turned-director-turned MP Shatabdi Roy.

'Meghe Dhaka Tara' and 'Chander Pahar' maker Kamaleswar Mukherjee said, "I had worked with Indraneil (Sengupta) in my debut film Uro Chithi as I knew what kind of actor he was. Here in Teenpatti he again is very believable."

"Films on sundry issues in different genres are coming up in Tollywood now and this works good for the cinema industry as a whole," he said.

"I don't pore over the names. I look at the script and story. My character is not just an eye candy in Teen Patti. It is not a triangular love story. And it is not a murder mystery solely. It has both elements" film's female lead Puja Bose said.

RDS Entertainment-produced Teen Patti, a game of cards, was premiered on March 28.

The name, derived from cards, is a reel life game of love, trust and betrayal, the two directors said.
