Tension at village after damage to Rajiv statue; two held

Tension prevailed at nearby Bhommanacikkenplayam village today, where a statue of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi was found vandalised.
Police said two persons had been detained in this connection and are being questioned.
They said Congress workers filed a complaint, stating that the face and the right hand of the life size statue of Rajiv Gandhi was found damaged last night.
Police rushed to the spot, inspected the statue and detained the duo today. Police personnel have been posted at the spot to avert any untoward incident, they said.
