With the arrest of three persons, the crime branch of Thane police today claimed to have solved the mystery surrounding the murder of a middle-aged man in the city ten days ago.

ACP Nagesh Lohar said that Babu Tulshiram Patade (21), Ashok Dattu Ghule (42), and Santosh Gulab Giri (34) were arrested today for the murder of Vilas Samant (40), resident of Padle village in Shail Daighar.

Samant was found lying in the bushes by some people who were out on morning walk in Kolshet area here on February 4. He had been stripped of his clothes and there were injuries on the body. He was declared brought dead at the hospital.

The probe revealed that Samant had borrowed Rs 6,000 from one of the accused for getting him a job, however he did not fulfil the promise.

Peeved, the accused abducted him, took him to Majiwada here, thrashed him, and dumped him for dead in an open space overgrown with bushes.

In 2013, a case of cheating had been registered against Samant, who had duped some other youths by promising jobs, police said. Samant had used the name 'Anand Parab' then.
