A 22-year-old youth who tried to loot cash from a foreign exchange office was nabbed and thrashed by its staff in West Delhi's Tilak Nagar area after the knife he was carrying fell in the melee.

Police later also nabbed two of his associates who had fled from the scene. The three accused have been identified as Adatiya alias Akash (22), Peter Joshaf (25) and Mohammed Yakub (41).

"The mastermind of the gang, Adatiya, who worked as a sales executive at a private company was caught by the staff of a money exchanger when the knife he was holding, fell from his hands," said DCP (West) Pushpendra Kumar.

Adatiya's interrogation led the police to his two accomplices, Peter Joseph and Mohammad Yaqub, who managed to flee from the spot when he was caught by the office staff.

Police said that a knife, a country-made pistol and live cartridges were recovered from them, the officer said.

"While Adatiya worked as a sales executive in a private company, Peter and Yaqub worked as driver and tailor, respectively. They had planned to attempt the loot at the foreign exchange office believing that large amount of cash would be there," he added.
