Three morning walkers die after police vehicle hits them

Three persons, including two women, were killed and another person was injured when a police jeep allegedly rammed into them today at Chhanban in Gomati district, about 55 km from here, police said.

Inspector General(IG), Police Control, Nepal Das said the police jeep rammed into the four pedestrians of whom three died on the spot and another person was injured.

"The driver was going to the police barrack at Dhajanagar from Radhakishorpur Police Station in the morning at about 5 AM when the accident occurred at Chhanban.

"All of them were morning walkers. Three persons including two women died on the spot and another was seriously injured," he said.
 

The injured was shifted from Tripurasundari Hospital to Agartala Government Medical College here, whose condition was stated to be critical.

Gomati district SP T S Sundaram said two hours after the incident, a group of people had gathered outside the Police Station and pelted stones.

Police resorted to lathi charge to disperse the crowd, he said, adding prohibitory orders under 144 CrPC was imposed at the Gomati district town to defuse tension.

Sundaram said the driver Dilip Debbarma was suspended from duty.
