It took Danis Tanovic eight years to realise his dream of making 'Tigers' and the Oscar-winning director of 'No Man's Land' says the true-story inspired film is "very personal" to him and as haunting as his debut war movie.

Earlier titled 'White Lies', the movie is an expose of big food corporations. Danis, who started researching on the story in 2006, says there were moments when he thought the film will never get made.

"Eight years is a lot of time for a project. We went through many ups and downs. We were almost there and then nothing. On the first day of shoot, I thought 'okay, we are finally making it' but I was not sure until the last day that we will finish it," Danis told PTI in an interview.

The director became familiar to the Indian audience after Aamir Khan's 'Lagaan' competed and lost an Oscar against his 'No Man's Land' in 2001. The film, set amidst Bosnian strife, brilliantly showed the absurdity and futility of war.

Danis says he is happy with the way 'Tigers' has turned out and hopes it is as impactful as his powerful debut.

"This film will haunt like the way 'No Man's Land' did in the end. I just hope that it starts a discussion on the problem and goes on to have a long life," he said.

In 'Tigers', Bollywood star Emraan Hashmi plays the role of Ayan, a salesman who secures his dream job with a multi-national corporation marketing infant formula milk, the artificial substitute for breast milk, only to go against the big guys when he learns about the damage the product is doing to babies.
