Bhartiya Kisan Union President Naresh Tikait, who has been booked for his alleged involvement in the Muzaffarnagar riots, appeared in a local court here in connection with another case against him.

Tikait appeared in the court yesterday in connection with the murder case of Congress leader Choudhary Jagbir Singh, who was shot dead in Ahlawatpur village of the district in 2003.

The police, however, did not arrest Tikait for last month's Muzaffarnagar violence for which he has been issued a non-bailable warrant by a court here along with 15 other politicians and community leaders.

The communal clashes in Muzaffarnagar and adjoining areas claimed 62 lives and displaced over 40,000 people.
