TN govt earmarks Rs 10,300 crore for tourism sector

Tamil Nadu has allocated Rs 10,300 crore for the development of tourism infrastructure in the state with a target to attract 1.5 crore foreign tourists by 2023, State Tourism Minister Shanmughanathan said today.

To achieve the target, the government has earmarked Rs 10,300 crore for the development of infrastructure at major tourist spots in the State, Shanmuganathan said while inaugurating Tea and Tourism Festival here, jointly organised by the Tea Board and the state government.

The Stone House, constructed during British era, would be converted into a museum at a cost of Rs.45 lakh, he said.

Tamil Nadu stands first in attracting both domestic and foreign tourists in India, which is second in the World in the arrival of foreign tourists, he said.
 

The two-day annual festival was aimed at promoting tea, a major economy of the district and also tourism, Shanmuganathan said.
