TN Guv initiates 'Swachh Bharat' campaign in Chennai

Tamil Nadu Governor K Rosaiah today initiated the Narendra Modi Government's 'Swachh Bharat Abhiyan' cleanliness drive here.

He 'initiated' the drive at the Raj Bhavan here, "on the call" of Modi's mission to make India clean, an official release here said.

The Governor said that cleanliness should begin from each home and individual and appealed that everyone should take it as their bounden duty to keep the surroundings clean and wholeheartedly involve in the cleanliness drive.

Rosaiah said "it is the greatest tribute we pay to Mahatma Gandhiji, the Father of our Nation," the release said, adding officials and staff of Raj Bhavan took part in the cleaning drive.
 

BJP state president Tamizhisai Sounderrajan participated at a similar event at the Egmore railway station.

Financial institutions and other industries across Tamil Nadu joined the mission by taking up the pledge and by cleaning the premises.

Indian Bank Executive Director, B Rajkumar administered the pledge to all the employees who participated in large numbers while Executive Director M K Jain inaugurated the cleaning campaign in and around campus.

At the Indian Overseas Bank Central office here Executive Director A D M Chavali administered the pledge.

Employees of Indian Oil Corporation at its regional office here participated in the drive. Tennis player Rushmi Chakravarthi participated.

At the Airport here, members of Airport Authority of India (AAI) participated in a cleanliness drive which included a tree plantation programme.

Airport Director K Suresh, after inspecting all the departments said the campaign should be taken up as an ongoing process and all the AAI offices should be cleaned regularly.

At the Army headquarters here, the Swachh Bharat Campaign was led by Lieutenant General Jagbir Singh, General Officer Commanding, HQ, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Karnataka Area.

Officers and Jawans of Chennai Garrison took the pledge for the Campaign at Fort Station location, an official release said. A cleanliness drive was carried out in the place of work habitat, living area, and general surroundings in the Military Cantonment, it added.
