A garment trader's teenaged son was allegedly killed by unidentified assailants who slit his throat at his home sparking protest by local traders today.

The assailants knocked at the door of garment trader Manoj Aggarwal's house at about 8 PM last night, a time when the entire family was sitting on the first floor, Khatima Circle Officer J R Joshi said.

Aggarwal's 15-year-old son Shubham Aggarwal, who studied at a school in Nainital and was on a vacation, ran downstairs to open the door, he said.

The moment he opened the door, the assailants attacked him with a sharp-edged weapon and slit his throat, Joshi said, adding that by the time his parents came down to find out what was amiss, Shubham was dead.

The businessmen in the town observed a bandh today by downing shutters of their business establishments in protest against the incident, the official said, adding a man who ran a mobile repair shop has been arrested on suspicion and is being interrogated.
