Collision between two passenger trains was averted today morning near a junction here, when the driver timely applied brakes after a signal problem, officials said.

The driver of the Chennai-Thanjavur Uzhavan express applied the brakes at around 7.45 AM after realising the train was going to the fourth platform, where the Tiruchirapalli- Karaikal passenger train was about to leave, and stopped just 200 metres away.

The Uzhavan express had to be stopped at the third platform, they said adding that an enquiry would be ordered into the signal problem.
