The trial run of the bus service between Guwahati and Dhaka in Bangladesh was flagged off here today by Assam PWD Minister Ajanta Neog.

Flagging off the Assam State Transport Corporation (ASTC) bus in the presence of senior officials from Bangladesh, Meghalaya and Assam, the minister said the route was functional before Independence and now after 67 years as part of the "Look East Policy" of the Central government.

The route from Guwahati via Meghalaya through Dawki to Sylhet enroute to Dhaka covering 496 Km has opened for passenger movement again and will help promote trade and Commerce, Neog said.

This is the third such initiative between India and Bangladesh after 1995 when Kolkata was connected for the first time and later in 2002 with Agartala.
