Singer Fergie has apologised for her National Anthem performance during NBA All-Star Game here.

The 42-year-old singer performed the 'Star-Spangled Banner' at Staples Center and she was slammed for the slow rendition by celebrities and viewers on social media.

Fergie released a statement in response to the backlash and said she "tried her best" to do something different.

"I've always been honoured and proud to perform the national anthem and last night I wanted to try something special for the NBA.

"I'm a risk taker artistically, but clearly this rendition didn't strike the intended tone. I love this country and honestly tried my best," Fergie said, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

After the performance, Fergie was ridiculed on Twitter with many user taking an offense to her rendition.

"This All Star opening is confusing me. WTF is going on? Anyone?" tweeted Khloe Kardashian.

Roseanne Barr, who was panned for her own rendition of the anthem in the 1990s, tweeted, "Who saw Fergie's national anthem performance at the NBA All Star Game? I think mine was better lowkey."

Comedienne and actor Leslie Jones tweeted, "Meanwhile back in the states... I leave for a couple of days and y'all lose your mind!! Why did this happen? Not everyone supposed to do this y'all! You might as well should have ask me to sing.
