About two lakh devotees took a holy dip in the Padmasarovar (holy tank) on the occasion of 'Panchami Theertham' on the concluding day of the nine-day annual Karthika Brahmotsavam festival at the Sri Padmavathi shrine here today.

After conducting celestial bath to the centuries-old idols of the goddess and Sudarsana Chakra (divine discus) on the banks of the temple holy tank, the high priests, amid chanting of vedic hymns, dipped the disc in the holy water.

In line with the tradition, priests and top officials of Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam, which manages the shrine, brought a silk sari, bangles and articles such as sandalwood paste and turmeric from the Lord Venkateswara shrine to the Padmavathi temple this morning, TTD Chairman Chadalawada Krishnamurthy said.

The festival began at Tiruchanur on November 26.

Police maintained strict vigil throughout the nine-day festival.
