Rains continued to lash various parts of Uttarakhand today, leaving major rivers of the state in spate and forcing authorities to evacuate 28 families in Chamoli district after rainwater inundated the area.
According to the Disaster Management and Mitigation Centre, Chamoli received the maximum 75 cm of rainfall during past 24 hours.
Dehradun, Almora, Champawat, Rudraprayag and Uttarkashi have also been receiving light to moderate rains since last night, it said.
Many rivers flowing through the state are in spate after incessant rainfall over the past few days.
In Uttarkashi, water level of Baghirathi river rose last night with its supporting Indrawati river changing its course.
Due to this, some portions of a lodge were washed away but nobody was hurt, police said.
28 families were taken to safer places after rainwater inundated their houses in Narayanbagarh area of Chamoli district.
In Almora, a house collapsed in Nauba area due to heavy rains but nobody was injured in the incident, police said.
The efforts to trace whereabouts of Almora SDM Ajay Arora, who had fallen into the Mandakini River on July 31, failed to bear any fruit today.
District Disaster Management Officer of Rudraprayag, Meera Kaintuka, said the divers continued to scour the Mandakini river in search of the missing officer, but in vein.
Officials said over 100 tonnes of relief material was today supplied to various places affected in the June flash floods.
Meanwhile, two army choppers on way to Bareilly from Haldwani had to make emergency landing in Rudrapur due to a technical snag, police said.
The helicopters, however, took off after one hour after the snag was fixed.
