UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres today condemned the "horrific" terror attack at a concert in Manchester and hoped those responsible for the "unjustifiable violence" will be brought to justice.

The Secretary General "expresses his deep sympathy and solidarity to the people and Government of the United Kingdom and hopes that those responsible for this unjustifiable violence will be swiftly brought to justice," a statement issued by the UN chief's spokesperson said.

Strongly condemning the "horrific terrorist attack", Guterres conveyed his heartfelt condolences to the families and friends of those killed.

US Ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley said America was "deeply saddened" to hear of the "senseless attack" on concert-goers in Manchester.

"We stand with our British friends as they heal from this cowardly act of terror. Our prayers are with the innocent victims of this attack and their families," she said in a statement.

The terror attack, for which ISIS has claimed responsibility, killed 22 people including several children and teenagers, as they attended a concert by pop singer Ariana Grande at the 21,000-seat Manchester Arena late last night.

The bomb tore through the entrance hall of the Arena just as the concert was ending and those gathered had begun to leave.
