Unclaimed packet with pipes triggers bomb scare in train coach

Five unclaimed pipe-like objects, wrapped in a polythene sheet, were found from a vacant compartment of Howrah-Secunderabad Falaknama Express at Howrah station last midnight, triggering a bomb scare.

A senior GRP official said the packet was discovered by the railway staff while cleaning the coach after the train arrived at platform 17 of Howrah station last night.

The packet was taken away and examined by the bomb disposal squad after cordoning off one corner of platform number one, he said.

However, the movement of local and long distance trains from different platforms remained unaffected, he said.
