The Uttar Pradesh government has decided to confer awards in the name of famous Ghazal singer Begum Akhtar on "Dadra", "Thumri" and "Ghazal" singers.
The decision to this effect was taken at Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav here today.
At the meeting it was decided to confer awards in the name of Begum Akhtar on singers of the state, who are known for "Dadra, Thumri and Ghazal" singing, an official spokesman said.
Those selected for the awards will be given Rs 5 lakh, a shawl and memento.
