The Madras High Court today sought a counter-affidavit from the Tamil Nadu governor in his capacity as the chancellor of universities regarding vacancies for posts of vice chancellors of nine state-run varsities.
A bench comprising justices A Selvam and P Kalaiarasan directed the Governor to file the counter before April 13 on a PIL seeking to appoint vice chancellors to the universities, including Madurai Kamaraj University and Anna University.
Besides the posts of VCs, the post of registrar was also vacant in the universities and this has paralysed their functioning in a big way, the petitioner submitted.
