City mayor Bharat Shah today unveiled a statue of the late freedom fighter Motibhai Haribhai Patel in the Harni Circle area here today.
Kashiba Patel, 102 years old widow of Motibhai Patel, was also felicitated on this occasion.
During the British era, Patel had successfully resisted the colonial rulers' plan to set up an army base at Harni village, which was then on the outskirts of the city.
The British had asked the villagers to leave the area, seeking to acquire the land, but Patel forced them to give up the plan.
Local MP Balkrishna Shukla, MLA Jitendra Sukhadiya and others were present on this occasion.
