Every vehicle used by officials managing elections should be fitted with Global Positioning System (GPS) for a better and more effective conduct of the poll process, Haryana State Election Commissioner Dharam Vir said here today.

He said the GPS-installed vehicles would enable the administration to respond to a situation at the earliest.

Vir was addressing a workshop of Deputy Commissioners and officers of National Informatics Centre (NIC) on application of Information and Communication technologies and Information Technology enabled Services in election process.

Haryana State Chief Electoral Officer Shrikant Walgad, Director of Panchayats Nitin Yadav and Deputy Commissioners of Ambala, Gurgaon, Hisar and Panipat were present in the workshop, an official release said.

The Deputy Commissioners and NIC officials shared their experience of conducting elections at the local levels and presented their views on introduction of Information Technology enabled Services in the election process.
