Vigilance unearth ASI's properties

The vigilance sleuths today unearthed properties worth around Rs 72.72 lakh belonging to an assistant sub-inspector of Odisha police during raids.

The anti-corruption sleuths raided the houses of E Sankar Rao, ASI at Rikapalli and those of his two brothers, his father's at Chhatrapur and his office chamber at Bhanja Bihar outpost simultaneously.

The raids were conducted with due permission from the special vigilance judge, Berhampur.

During the search, the vigilance personnel found a double-storied and well-furnished building in the name of Sankar Rao at Rikapalli worth around Rs 51.33 lakh, a residential plot in the name of his father E Venkat Rao at Rikaplli worth Rs 2.2 lakh and an old house in the name of his father valued around Rs 4.2 lakh. The sleuths also unearthed household articles (Rs 5.18 lakh), deposits in post offices (Rs 6 lakh) and banks (Rs 1.48 lakh), gold and silver ornaments worth (RS 1.50 lakh), a motorcycle (RS 65,000) and cash around Rs 18,200.
 

Vigilance SP (Berhampur) Manoranjan Panda said Rao had joined as a constable in 1987. He was promoted as an ASI and posted in the outpost at Bhanja Bihar on 2010.

"We are calculating his ill-gotten money, if any", he said.
