The Karnataka government today appointed T M Vijay Bhaskar as the new Chief Secretary.
Bhaskar, a 1983 batch IAS officer, was serving as Additional Chief Secretary to the government.
He succeeds K Ratna Prabha, who retired today from service on superannuation, a government notification said.
The Centre in March had approved the service extension of Ratna Prabha as Karnataka Chief Secretary for three months, in view of the May 12 assembly elections.
The state government had recently written to theCentre, seeking another extension of her term for three more months, but reportedly withdrew it later.
Assuming charge, Bhaskar said his focus would be on making government services available to the common man at his doorstep.
"Government services should be available to the common man at his doorstep without one having to run around government offices. This will be my focus,"he said.
