A 42-year-old tribal man
was today arrested for allegedly beating his wife to death in Gotheghar village in Shahapur taluka in the district, police said.
The accused Ananta Hilam lived with his wife Alka in Laxman Nagar locality of Gotheghar village. Both of them had the habit of drinking and used to argue with each other, API B N Shinde of Shahapur police station said.
"Last night around 10.30 pm, the accused came home in an inebriated state and following an argument with his wife, he thrashed her severely due to which she died on the spot," Shinde added.
The local residents alerted the police and the body was sent for post-mortem.
The accused has been charged under section 302 (murder) of the IPC, police said.
