Villagers today lined up in front of a rural hospital at Sandeshkhali in South 24-Parganas district demanding they be vaccinated against rabies.

The villagers wanted the anti-rabies vaccine as they had drank the milk of a cow which died after being bitten by a rabid dog nearly 2 months ago, officials said.

The residents of Situlia village began to pour in the premises of Khulna Rural Hospital since morning though the doctors assured them of not being infected by rabies virus.

Dr Pushpendu Sengupta, Chief Medical Officer of Health of Basirhat, said, "There is no chance of the villagers being infected by rabies. They are absoultely safe even after drinking milk of the cow."

Local MP Idris Ali also visited the area and after meeting the doctors assured the villagers of good health after the incident.
