Viola Davis to play Michelle Obama in 'First Ladies'

Actor Viola Davis is set to play former First Lady Michelle Obama in a series titled "First Ladies"

Showtime has given the prospective one-hour drama a three-script commitment, reported Variety.

Novelist Aaron Cooley is writing the series and will also serve as the executive produce.

The series will focus on the personal and political lives of First Ladies from throughout the history of the US. Season one will feature the life stories of Eleanor Roosevelt, Betty Ford and Obama.

Prior to Davis, actor Tika Sumpter has played Obama in 2016 film "Southside With You".
