Press Trust of India New Delhi
As yet another spell of heavy showers exposed the choked drainage system in the city, Delhi government today accused the BJP-ruled municipal corporation of not removing the silt from the drains under its jurisdiction and accused them of trying to mislead the people on the issue.

PWD Minister Raj Kumar Chouhan wrote separate letters to mayors of three municipal corporations and gave details of the silt removed by the his department in the last few months.

Asking the mayors not to "mislead" the people on the issue, the minister cited official records to prove that his department had cleaned a number of major drains in the city ahead of the monsoon season.

A spell of heavy rains on July 20 had brought the national capital to a grinding halt with roads across the city submerged, leading to massive traffic snarls that left commuters stranded for hours and exposing civic bodies' lack of preparedness to check water logging.

A blame game had taken place between the municipal corporation and Delhi government following the massive water logging mess.
