The Congress-CPI(M) alliance in West Bengal today demanded a discussion in the Assembly on fuel price hike and rise in prices of essential commodities, and it was referred to the Business Advisory committee of the House.
After an all-party meeting, Leader of the Opposition Abdul Mannan said though the opposition had made the demand, the ruling party "seemed not to be in favour of any discussion on the issue in the Assembly".
"If the ruling party doesn't allow us to speak in the Assembly, then we will have to think of something else," he said.

Speaker Biman Banerjee later said, "Such decisions are not taken here. It will be discussed in the Business Advisory committee meeting next week."
However, deputy leader of Trinamool Congress, Partha Chatterjee said, "What is the hurry? Everything can be sorted out through discussion.
