Uttar Pradesh Governor Ram Naik said today ever since he took office he has tried to build better cultural relations between the most populous state and Maharashtra from where he hails.

Naik, appointed the UP Governor in July 2014, said in the coming months he will ensure that the Maharashtra-Uttar Pradesh cultural ties are further expanded and deepened.

The 84-year-old former Union minister, who was in Thane toparticipate in a function, was talking to the media.

Naik said a Governor is suppose to act like a "sethu" (bridge) between the state and the Centre.

He said his suggestion to celebrate the UP Foundation Day in Mumbai and the Maharashtra Day in the Raj Bhavan in Lucknow was well received and implemented this year.

Naik said since his appointment, he has met 24,067 people in the Raj Bhavan and attended as many as 1,382 public functions.
