Woman battles for life after being set on fire by in-laws

On a statement given to the Haryana Police by Poonam Yadav (25) at the Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi, the Rewari district police has registered a case of attempt to murder and cruel harassment for dowry against her husband Devi Lal, father-in- law Sarjit Yadav and mother-in-law Sukhdayak Devi, besides all residents of Palhawas village, 22 km from here.

Poonam, who is severely burnt, was admitted to the hospital on Sunday.

In her statement, according to Rewari Police, she complained that on account of her parent's inability to meet enhanced dowry demand of her in-laws, she was allegedly set on fire after kerosene was sprinkled over her body by her in-laws on Sunday.

 

Poonam of Bawwa village, who got married to Devi Lal about three years ago, also bore a daughter, who is now 16 months old.
