A woman has been booked for allegedly abetting the suicide of a 40-year-old male colleague in Thane nearly two years back, police said today.

Prashant Jadhav, who worked with a builder at Nandivili in the district, had allegedly committed suicide on August 23, 2014, by hanging himself to a tree near his house in Ambernath township.

The police had then registered an accidental death report (ADR).

However, later the deceased's wife complained to police that her husband ended his life after being fed up of constant harassment by his 42-year-old woman colleague, who also worked for the same builder, Assistant Police Inspector A P Choudhari, of Hill Line police station under Ulhasnagar division, said.

She mentioned in her complaint that the woman befriended her husband at their workplace and made advances towards him.

According to the complaint, the woman colleague used to frequently call and send messages to Jadhav and also harassed him.

Police conducted a probe based on the complaint and after taking a legal opinion, registered an offence against the woman yesterday under section 306 (abetment of suicide) of the IPC.

The woman has not been arrested so far, police said, adding that further probe in the case is on.
