A seven-year-old girl was mauled to death by a leopard at Raiwala near here whereas a woman was killed after being attacked by a bear in Rudraprayag district, forest department sources said here today.
Deepika Negi was dragged away by the leopard when she came out of her house along with her mother at Raiwala last evening to buy something, forest department sources here said.
As her mother raised an alarm, the feline left the child after dragging her for about 50 metres and escaped into the wild.
However, the child who sustained injuries in the neck died while being taken to the hospital, they said.
In a separate incident, 45-year-old Hemlata Trivedi was ambushed by a bear when she went to a forest near her village Kimana in Rudraprayag district to collect fodder yesterday.
As the bear attacked her she lost balance and fell off a cliff.
She died on the spot, the sources said.
