Woman, driver held with 15 kg poppy husk

A medical store owner and her driver were today arrested with 15 kg poppy husk near Chawa village here, police said in this district.

Acting on a specific information, police laid a 'naka' near the village and stopped a car coming from Jammu and Kashmir in which the woman was travelling, police said.

During its search, police seized 15 kg poppy husk besides a huge stock of medicines, they said.

The woman runs a medical store in Bhaini Mian Khan village in this district while her driver is a resident of the same village, police said.

She used to bring poppy husk from Kathua in Jammu and Kashmir on the pretext of bringing medicines for her store, they said.
 

A case under the relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been registered against them, police said.
