A 34-year-old married woman allegedly strangled her husband to death and then dumped his body in the septic tank of their house in south-west Delhi's Krishna Vihar colony, police said today.

The woman, identified as Seema, has been detained by the police, said Dependra Pathak, Joint Commissioner of Police (South West).

According to the police, Seema allegedly killed her husband, Om Bharadwaj (40), on August 15 night and then put his body inside a bed box.

On August 16 morning, she allegedly pulled out the body from the bed box, dragged it downstairs and dumped it in the septic tank beneath the verandah of the two-storeyed house. After that she allegedly summoned a few labourers and got the lid of the septic tank cemented.

Seema and Om Bharadwaj have two children, who were both sleeping when the incident took place. After dumping the body in the septic tank, Seema left the house with her children and went to her brother's residence, said the senior official.

She told her sister-in-law about it, who reported the matter to her brother and later both of them approached the police.

A police team was rushed to the spot. Last evening, the officials had to break open the lid of the septic tank to exhume Om Bharadwaj's decomposed body. The body was later sent for postmortem examination, said the official.

During questioning, Seema told the police that Om Bharadwaj was alcoholic and he allegedly used to physically assault her regularly.

"A case was registered under Sections 302 (murder) and 201 (causing disappearance of evidence of offence) of IPC at Baba Haridas Nagar police station," said RA Sanjeev, Deputy Commissioner of Police (South-West).
