Woman shot at over resisting gangrape attempt

A 30-year-old married woman was allegedly shot at for resisting a gangrape attempt by three persons at Mubarakpur village in Shamli district.

According to the complaint, three persons including one Naeem shot at the victim yesterday, after she resisted their attempt to rape her in Mubarakpur village, SHO VP Singh said.

A case has been registered against the trio following the complaint by the victim's mother-in-law, he said.

The police further stated that the incident occured when the victim had gone to the fields to relieve herself.

The condition of the woman is stated to be critical, Singh said.

No arrests have been made so far, he added.
 

In another incident, body of a 40-year-old woman was found in Yamuna Canal in Shamli district last evening.

The deceased has not been identified, police said, adding that the body has been sent for postmortem.
