To ensure safety of women, Haryana Police today set up a women's help desk at a police station in Manesar, ahead of the upcoming festival of Raksha Bandhan on August 18.
Gurgaon Police Commissioner Navdeep Singh Virk, who inaugurated the help desk, said that Deputy Commissioner of Police (East), Deepak Saharan, had been appointed the nodal officer for the desk, which would be manned by a woman sub-inspector and two woman constables from 9 am to 5 pm daily, said an official release.
He said that the officers at the help desk would provide immediate legal assistance to victims. This would be especially helpful for women in rural areas and those belonging to weaker sections of the society.
He said that the efforts being made by the Haryana Government and Police to ensure the safety of women had garnered appreciation at international level and a leading European channel was preparing a documentary on the women's police station at Gurgaon.
