Youth Congress activists, carrying a dummy ATM, today protested and attempted to march towards the Prime Minister's Office against the Union government's demonetisation drive, calling it a "burden" on middle class.

The activists were stopped by police, however.

Following that, Delhi Youth Congress president Amit Malik said the whole demonetisation process has become a "burden" on middle class due to "mismanagement" by the Narendra Modi-led government.

"All across the country, people are losing their jobs because of demonetisation. More than a month has been passed and the government still has been not able to provide relief to the people. The whole process has become a burden for the middle class, and poor people," Malik said.

Instead of resolving these issues, the prime minister and his government are busy in "self-promotion and publicity", he charged.

Congress has been critical of the implementation of the demonetisation exercise launched on November 8.
