One person was today killed and another injured when the motorcycle they were riding on was hit by a truck at Mariampur area here following which irate locals set the truck on fire and pelted stones at police.
Kanpur SSP K Emanuel said Ajad (29) and his relative Birendra, 22, were riding their bike when it was hit by a truck killing Azad on spot. Birendra, who was critically injured in the accident, has been admitted to hospital.
Following the incident, angry locals set the truck ablaze and threw stones at police, he said.
Upon receiving information, police and administrative officials rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.
Police have detained three persons for indulging in stone-pelting, the SSP said, adding, efforts are on to nab the absconding truck driver.
