Cotton prices firmed up as late rains raised fears of crop losses, sending prices higher in producing centres despite slow mill demand, traders said.
Late and unseasonal heavy rains particularly in the west and southmay delay new crop supplies and may affect crop size in some areas, one broker added. In the spot deals,Bengal-Deshi rose Rs 20 to Rs 1,170/1200 per maund. October delivery rose Rs 10 to Rs 1,150/1,170 and November delivery rose Rs 10 to Rs 1,130/1,150.
Traders reported new crop arrivals of 800/900 bales (170 kilogramme each) in the Punjab region.
