Demat Trade Of 25 Lakh Shares In Usha India

The depository segment witnessed a sharp spurt in traded turnover yesterday with 42.11 lakh shares (BSE and NSE combined) worth Rs 31.69 crore changing hands. This is the highest volume recorded in the demat segment till date This included a single block deal of 25 lakh shares in the Usha India scrip at the rate of Rs 5 per share. Though the exact identity of the buyer and seller could not be confirmed, marketmen said it could have been an inter-scheme tranfer of the same fund. Another significant deal was witnessed at the Shree Cement counter with 1 lakh shares changing hands at the rate of Rs 14.90 per share. This was at a discount of Rs 1.60 to the BSE closing price of Rs 16.50 per share.
As many as 18 scrips were traded in the depository segment yesterday. The Reliance scrip single handedly accounted for bulk of the turnover, clocking Rs 22.97 crore.
The HLL scrip witnessed a flurry of activity on the BSE on the first day of its no-delivery period. The scrip flared up to a new 52-week high of Rs 1635 on the BSE during intra-day trading with 3.3 lakh shares getting traded. The scrip finally closed at Rs 1619, a gain of Rs 68.50 over the previous close. The closing price on the NSE (Rs 1579) was Rs 44 lower than the BSE closing price.

The E-merck scrip saw hectic trading interest yesterday with the scrip gaining Rs 19 on the BSE to close at Rs 239. On the NSE, the scrip closed at Rs 238.60 Marketmen said the interest was trigerred off by rumours that Hoechst and E-merck were in talks for merger wordwide. The Bajaj Auto scrip was a major casualty of the day on the back of a large sell order by a leading foreign fund. On the BSE, the scrip crashed from the day's high of Rs 626 to an intra day low of Rs 596.25. It however recovered to Rs 606 at close, a loss of Rs 15 over the previous close.
ON the BSE, 4950 shares of Raasi Cement were auctioned at Rs 285 per share, a premium of Rs 22 over the BSE closing price of Rs 263. The scrip has been witnessing sustained buying interest ever since India Cements has made a take over bid for the company. Trading in the scrip was frozen on the BSE and NSE at Rs 263 and Rs 245 respectively after it hit the upper end of the circuit filter.
The Mysore Cements scrip continued to edge up yesterday with trading being frozen at Rs 16 on the BSE with 5950 shares changing hands. On the NSE, trading in the scrip was frozen at Rs 15.60.
