Dow Chemical Found Negligent In Implant Trial

Women suing the Dow Chemical Co. for its role in testing silicone breast implants won a major victory on Monday as a jury ruled the company was negligent and intentionally withheld information about implant dangers. The state district court jury here, ruling in the first phase of a landmark class action suit, found that Dow Chemical was negligent in testing silicone for use in human implants, intentionally withheld information, knowingly made misleading statements about their safety and conspired with manufacturer Dow Corning Inc. Dow Corning is a 50-50 joint venture of Dow Chemical and Corning Inc. About 30 women who were part of the lawsuit wept openly and hugged each other as the verdict was read. This validates what weve been saying all along. We had a product put in our bodies that was not safe, Connie Hebert of Avondale, La., said.
