Dpc Rules Out Bses Role In Transmission

BSES will consider getting into power transmission while Dabhol Power Company (DPC) has ruled out such a move.
This assumes significance in the wake of the Union cabinets decision to promulgate an ordinance to amend the Electricity Act, 1910, and the Electric Supply Act, 1948, to make power transmission a distinct activity from power generation.
This will pave the way for the private sector to invest in power transmission alone. So far, private companies could only be licensees for power transmission.

About 100,000 mw of power has to be added in the next 10 years. Power Grid Corporation alone will not be able to meet this need. There has been a long-felt need to allow the private sector into this area. It is indeed a welcome move.
