According to senoir Sebi sources, department heads in each of the Sebi divisions, the primary market, secondary market and the investigation divisions will make presentations before the finance minister presenting an overview of work done by the regulator in each department.

Market sources say that the finance minister is expected to have a grilling session at Sebi and will be visiting with a full agenda. Said a leading investment banker: The Sebi chairman asked us if we have any suggestions to make to the finance minister.

 

The revival of the capital market will be on top of the agenda and issues like buy-back of shares, double taxation of dividend and long-term capital gains tax are likely to be discussed.

Chidambaram will be the first finance minister to visit the Sebi head office in Mumbai.
