Groundnut Oil Hardens, Bullion Loses Gleam

Groundnut oil improved further on improved demand coupled with restricted arrivals whereas other industrial oils ruled easy-to-steady at the wholesale oils and oilseeds market, Turbhe, Navi Mumbai yesterday.

Groundnut oil firmed up further by Rs 4 at Rs 378 per 10 kg on better demand and reduced arrivals from the producing centres. Arrivals were put at around 85 tonnes a day.

In other oils, cottonseed oil washed and refined qualities looked up by Rs 3 each to Rs 287 and Rs 291 per 10 kg.respectively on improved industrial demand coupled with modest arrivals. Soya oil refined looked up by Rs 2 at Rs 287 on better offtake. Karanji oil declined by Rs 5 to Rs 135 per 10 kg. on reduced demand and better arrivals. Copra oil white shot up by Rs 15 at Rs 555 per 10 kg.on renewed industrial offtake coupled with limited arrivals.

 

In futures section, castorseeds September contract opened Re 1 higher at Rs 1174 and improved to Rs 1177 a quintal. Later, it declined and closed at Rs 1161. December contract opened at Rs 1175 a quintal and ruled overall steady at the same level throughout the trading sesson.

Sugar: A firm-to-steady trend was noticed at the wholesale sugar market at Turbhe, Navi Mumbai yesterday. Sugar S-30 grade firmed up to Rs 1485/1510 as against the previous level of Rs 1480/1508 a quintal on better consumer offtake. Sugar M-30 looked up to Rs 1503/1537 as against the previous level of Rs 1504/1535 a quintal on subdued offtake. Sugar for the checkpost deliveries were quoted low at Rs 1457/1470 a quintal for S-30 grade and Rs 1480/1505 for the M-30 grade.

Non-ferrous metals: All the metals ruled overall steady, and were nominally quoted as under : copper heavy scraps- Rs 123, copper utensils-Rs 112, brass utensils-Rs 96.50, brass sheetcuttings-Rs 101.50 and aluminium utensils-Rs 60 a kg.respectively on narrow movements.

In virgin section, all the metals ruled steady, and were nominally quoted as under : copper wirebars-Rs 132, aluminium ingots-Rs 78, zinc slabs-Rs 84, lead ingots-Rs 42, tin slabs-Rs 292 and nickel cathodes-Rs 341/ kg respectively.

Bullion: Both the precious metals ruled weak. In white metals, silver.999 and .916 declined by Rs 105 each to Rs 6325 and Rs 6225 a kg.respectively on weak overseas advices, little industrial demand and better arrivals. Delhi advices also indicated a weak trend.

Standard gold and 22 carat gold eased by Rs 35 and Rs 30 to Rs 4480 and Rs 4,145 per 10 grammes respectively on reduced demand coupled with modest arrivals.

London advices also showed a weak trend. Gold biscuits prices also weakened by Rs 400 at Rs 52,400 per piece of 10 tola on subdued movements.
