Public sector telecom giant Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd (MTNL) has proposed to hike the total outlay for the ninth five-year plan by 27 per cent to about Rs 5,400 crore from Rs 4,253 crore in the previous plan, according to MTNL chief general manager N K Dua. The enhanced outlay would be utilised for doubling the capacity of the network with a major thrust on technology upgradation, he said.
The subscriber network remains the weakest area. We propose to strengthen the network by bringing in new technology in the forthcoming plan, he said.
