The downtrend continued unabated as pivotals suffered a further setback on the National
Stock Exchange (NSE) yesterday on heavy disinvestment by foreign funds and poor support from local institutions.

The NSE-50 opened at 962.65 and slumped to a low of 940.10 before closing at 944.80, showing a fall of 18.50 points from the previous close of 963.30. The dollar NSE-50 (Defty) closed at 844.90 with a loss of 23.35 points. The Midcap slumped to a low of 1,086.95 before recovering to close at 1,092.20, a minor loss of one point over the previous close of 1,093.20.
The exchange witnessed a total turnover of Rs 1,588.06 crore from 506.86 lakh shares and in 1,60,094 trades. The debentures traded value was Rs 386.56 lakh. About 50 securities had hit their price bands yesterday.
The most active five scrips were ITC with a turnover of Rs 732.79 crore, Castrol Rs 204.74 crore, Tata Tea Rs 126.87 crore, SBI-N Rs 109.59 crore and Reliance Rs 92.91 crore.
The other scrips among the top 25 traded securities were ACC (Rs 38.69 cr), HLL (Rs 30.00 cr), MTNL (Rs 24.78 cr), Bajaj Auto (Rs 21.97 cr), Telco (Rs 20.78 cr), Tisco (Rs 17.43 cr), Bhel (Rs 16.18 cr), L&T (Rs 12.09 cr), LML (Rs 11.83 cr), Aptech (Rs 8.96 cr), Corp Bank (Rs 8.74 cr), Infosys Tech (Rs 7.92 cr), Colgate (Rs 7.76 cr), ICICI (Rs 5.33 cr), M&M (Rs 4.71 cr), BSES (Rs 4.44 cr), Inger Rand (Rs 3.97 cr), HPCL (Rs 3.81 cr), IPCL (Rs 3.38 cr) and NIIT (Rs 3.24 cr).
The top five Nifty gainers were Cochin Refn Rs 165.00 (Rs 158.75), Ashok Ley Rs 34 (Rs 32.95), IDBI Rs 78.70 (Rs 76.60), MRPL Rs 18.70 (Rs 18.45) and IFCI Rs 29.90 (Rs 29.60).
The top five losers were ABB Rs 451.30 (Rs 498), Bhel Rs 272.30 (Rs 295.15), ITC Rs 551.30 (Rs 582.10),
E I Hotel Rs 370.20 (Rs 389.90) and M&M Rs 234.95 (Rs 246.45).
Meanwhile, equities shot up sharply on the Otcei. The composite index opened at 108.63, moved up to 114.66 and finally settled at 114.64, a rise of 6.01 points over the previous close of 108.63. The total turnover was Rs 33.23 lakh involving 1,25,220 shares and debentures.
