Singtel To Offer Net Phone Service

Singapore Telecommunications (SingTel) Ltd yesterday said it will start providing phone services through the Internet with new technology provided by a Singapore company. A SingTel spokesman said its Internet service provider, SingNet, would start marketing the service developed by Mediacom Technologies on Thursday. The Business Times newspaper yesterday said Mediacoms technology will turn a personal computer into something closer to a telephone. It said a test call made to Japan showed that voice quality was good.
