AMD takes its battle to India

AMD, which is pulling out all stops to snatch away marketshare from Intel, has decided to engage its arch rival in a new way in India.

Other than selling cilicon, it is now seeking to win supporters for its technology. India is a major centre for software talent and development and AMD for the first time hosted its Developer Conference in Bangalore on Wednesday. Intel has been holding its developer meet here for quite a some-time on a much bigger scale.

Said Ajay Marathe, corporate vice president and president, AMD India: "We envision the AMD Developer Conference 2006 will empower developers, IT managers, techno-marketers and architects to work on the AMD platform."

He further said, as a result ADC 2006, christened 'Championing Performance', can become an ideas melting pot for top notch technology professionals and give them a platform to interact with hundreds of peers, discuss the challenges they face in their work, and explore solutions with experts from AMD to add value to their organisations' IT investments.

Added Richard Finlayson, director, Developer Outreach, AMD: "We realise India is an IT hub and that Bangalore has a large concentration of software developers, architects and IT managers. ADC 2006 is an attempt to raise our proximity with this community and keep them informed about the latest information related to AMD's technologies. We want to aid their decision making process and make it easier to develop solutions for the AMD domain."
