| Avtar Saini, who was responsible for setting up the Intel Development Centre in India, has quit Intel. Saini was country manager & director of Intel South Asia and then a consultant for around 4 months prior to his exit. |
| A spokesperson from Intel India said: "Avtar Saini left Intel India early January. From being country manager of Intel South Asia, Saini had moved onto be a consultant for Intel and Amar Babu has taken over from his as country head." |
| "Saini opted out of Intel to spend more time with his family. If he would have been country manager and had retired from Intel, we would have surely issued a statement. Since he was a consultant when he left Intel, there was no need to announce his exit," the official said. |
| In August 2003, Intel India had announced that Saini will act as strategic consultant and drive strategic programs designed to help change the slope of the PC growth curve in India. |
| During his stint as director - South Asia, Saini was responsible for sales and marketing, strategic investments, initiatives driving PC literacy and technology development. |
| Saini said: "I exited Intel as I found growth plateauing. I am looking at various options now. As a technology person and I will be more of a strategic consultant to a few companies." |
| Saini spent around 23 years in Intel's various operations and was in charge of Intel South Asia for nearly 4 years. Saini was responsible for setting up the India Development Centre which employs 1,700 professionals and the centre is working on some of Intel's entire product development cycles. Saini holds 7 patents for his work on micro-processor design. |
