Mumbai-based mobile group messaging service, GupShup, on Monday introduced new multilingual features, including a regional keyboard, to its messaging app GupShup Messenger.

These features will allow GupShup users to communicate with their followers in nine Indian languages including Hindi, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Punjabi, Tamil and Telugu, besides English.

“Supporting multiple languages is the most important aspect of localisation, and was a prerequisite for increasing the number of potential users. We believe that it is important to serve all of the users with diverse features and simplify the user interface significantly,” Milind Agarwal, co-founder and chief community officer of GupShup, said in a release.

GupShup, which enables users to send their short messages, privately with friends or publicly with all, has over 60 million users in India and has two billion messages exchanged among users every month.
